Despite its emphasis on compact size and flexible connectivity, the VS8's designers maintained Dayton Audio's typical commitment to faithful audio reproduction. A VS8 can be installed permanently in walls, floors, or ceilings, but is attractive enough to deploy in opportunistic locations like behind a sofa, beneath a table, or tucked into a corner. Performance-wise, an 8 long-throw dual voice coil driver and complex bass reflex design that utilizes a flared port produce much more bass than is expected typically from such a small loudspeaker enclosure. The Dayton Audio VS8 low-profile subwoofer is finished in a dark brushed aluminum-look vinyl wrap that complements any dcor. The omni-directional dispersion characteristics and shallow enclosure of this subwoofer facilitate limitless placement options. The VS8 fits between wall studs, and is easy to install (requires a Dayton Audio VS8IG in-wall mounting kit.). This subwoofer can also be mounted on the wall externally or placed behind furniture. Down-firing use beneath furniture is aided by the VS8's included rubber feet, which elevate the subwoofer and protect surfaces. Coupling to the floor via spikes is also possible, and Dayton Audio speaker spikes (sold separately) may be installed as an alternative to the rubber feet. Or, lay the VS8 on its back and use it in an up-firing configuration.
